The EU has issued a draft revision of the RoHS exemptions for lead and cadmium

On July 8, 2026, the European Union issued a draft revision of the RoHS lead and cadmium-related exemption clauses, proposing amendments to the exemptions for lead and cadmium in Annex III and Annex IV of the EU RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU). The draft opens a public consultation period from July 8 to August 5, 2026. Companies in the EU market related to lighting fixtures, medical devices, industrial monitoring instruments, optical testing instruments, and various electronic and electrical products are advised to conduct material screening in advance and develop compliance risk mitigation plans.
