Indonesia Labeling Regulation has Come into Force

The Ministry of Trade of Indonesia issued the label regulation of product No. 62/M-DAG/PER/12/2009 last year, and the amendment No. 22/M-DAG/PER/5/2010 this year, in which a number of products are required to be labeled in Indonesian. The rule has come into force on Sept 1 of this year and it will have 18-month transition period for compliance if the product has been in circulation.

Applicable range of products:

The applicable range of products can be divided into four categories, with the detailed list in Annex I to Annex IV.

● Annex I –Household electronics, telecommunications and IT equipments (Total 46 products)
● Annex II  -  Building materials (Total 8 products)
● Annex III –Auto parts materials (Total 24 products)
● Annex IV – other products (e.g.
Footwear, leather products, toys, clothing, etc.) (Total 25 products)

Regulation of the label:

The new regulation requires the label to be clear and easily understood in Bahasa Indonesia. The label must not be readily separated from products or their packaging nor easily smudged or damaged. The use of language, other than Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic digits and Latin letters, is permissible if equivalent terminology is not available. The content of the label shall include:

● Name and/or brand name

● Name and address of manufacturer for domestic production of goods

● Name and address of importer for imported goods

● Country of origin

● Other information such as instructions for use, including care symbols, safety advice and warning symbols, fibre composition etc as pertinent to the product.

The regulation of the certificate:

● All the imported goods in the customs territory of Indonesia's must be labeled in Indonesian;

● The label information shall be submitted to the Director of Supervision of Available Goods and Services for approval and a Certificate will be issued within 5 working days upon receipt of sample.

● Manufacturer or importer can not sell the goods unless receiving the certificate.
