Toys Phthalates Requirement under JFSL and ST 2002 is updated

Japan amended phthalates requirements under Japan Food Sanitation Law (JFSL), and this amendment will become fully effective on September 6th, 2011. Material,such as plasticized PVC, PU and rubber that may be used in toys will have to meet this very new phthalates requirements. Then, the Japan Toy Association (JTA) leads the toy industry to follow this new requirements under JFSL. By the way, PU and rubber are  also restricted under ST2002.

New controled material PU and Rubber can be tested under CPSC official phthalates test method CPSC-CH-C1001-09.3 or test method under the Food Sanitation Law.

On August 10th, 2011, JTA issued temporary measures of ST Standard to guide the insdustry to follow new phthalate requirements of JFSL. A final rule was also issued on Part 3 of the ST Standard which included plasticized PVC, PU and rubber materials in toys to keep in step with JFSL. Related new phthalates requirements are showed in the following Table.
