Brazil to ban baby bottles containing BPA

The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) has announced that the production, import and sale of baby bottles containing bisphenol A (BPA) is to be banned, aligning Brazilian regulation with that of the EU (CW 1 June 2011 ) and other countries including China (CW 26 April 2011), Canada (31 March 2010 ) Malaysia (CW 23 March 2011) and South Africa (CW 21 April 2011 ).

The ban on manufacture and import will enter into force 90 days after the legislation is published in Brazil's Official Gazette. Sales of products manufactured or imported during this period will be banned from 31 December 2011.
