USA toys importer sentenced for violating CPSIA

Recently, an USA toys importer was sentenced to 22 months incarceration in federal prison, three years of supervised release and a $10,000 fine in violation of CPSIA and the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

From about April 2000 through May 2011, this Import-Export company and his related corporations conspired to sell and distribute in commerce banned children's products imported. The products included counterfeit toys of Disney and Marvel characters as well as other famous characters.

These products allegedly presented the risk of choking, aspiration, and ingestion, and some contained lead above the federal limits.

CTT reminds relevant toys manufacturers to produce CPSIA-compliant toys and children's products into USA to avoid unnecessary loses in placing products into market of USA. Under CPSIA, total Lead (Pb) in paint and other similar surface coatings shall not exceed 90mg/kg, and not exceed 100mg/kg in accessible substrate. Meanwhile, the content of each of the specific phthalates in plastic part shall not exceed 1000mg/kg.
